It depends on the child's age group and classroom openings!
Some classrooms have a waitlist of 9 kids, some have 2 or 3. We tend to have openings in December, June and in August when families leave for Christmas or summer vacation and when our preschoolers leave to start Kindergarten. When there is an opening, we begin calling the families on our waitlist. The opening is for immediate enrollment and families called from the waitlist will be given a deadline to register, otherwise, the opportunity to register will be given to the next family on the list. While we try to exhaust all available ways to contact those on the waitlist, those that do not respond to messages will be considered as "no longer needing care" and will be removed from the waitlist to keep the list current.
Yes, tuition is paid to secure a spot for the student. You can compare it to a gym membership. You pay membership to be able to use the facilities of a gym anytime you want during it's opening hours. Also, there is a significant difference between our hourly drop in rate as opposed to the tuition rate of a regularly attending student simply because drop in tuition rates would be inconsistent and unpredictable which will mean that proper staffing to ensure compliance of ratios would be almost impossible. In turn, the drop in tuition rate (paying for only when care is needed) would be up to 47% more to ensure overhead costs can be collected.
Yes, we have a gated and partly shaded play area covered with artificial grass. Starting at one year of age, students have outdoor play time at least once a day, more if weather permits. We have a playground checklist for before use and after use to ensure that any hazards are found prior to allowing kids entry. For example, bee hives and other bugs, broken/dirty/wet playground equipment, other foreign objects, etc. All student take their water bottles with them to ensure proper hydration during outdoor play. Teachers are allowed to bring their cellphones for emergency use during outdoor play. Teachers also bring the playground kit which has a small first aid kit, baby wipes, paper towels, hand sanitizer, alcohol spray, sunblock and mosquito repellant.
Upon registration, there will be an annual registration fee of $125, payable again on every anniversary of enrollment. The registration fee includes one uniform shirt. There is also an annual technology/supply fee of $275, also payable again on every anniversary of enrollment. This fee covers our high speed internet service (needed for our Brightwheel app, security cameras, Echo Dots, tablets and computers), Brightwheel monthly subscription, security camera subscription, Ring doorbell subscription, as well as supplies needed for our daily lessons including paper and photocopying expenses, materials for science projects and arts and craft activities. This fee also helps with the cost of field trips and our regularly scheduled family events.
We have a total of 27 cameras at our center. Two of those cameras look out into our parking lot and one is at our back door for each center. Video footage is only seen by the owner to observe the classrooms while offsite and to verify any incidents in question. For the protection and privacy of all students, parents cannot see video footage.
Children will be sent home with a 100F or higher and may not return unless fever free for 24 hours without the aid of medication. Children will also be sent home for excessive diarrhea and vomiting, pink eye, head lice, HFM, and any other communicable disease.
More details of our sick policies are included in our Parent Handbook.
In addition to our 27 security cameras, we have a secured receiving area. Doors that lead to the classroom and office have keypad locks. Parents and visitors would have to ring the video doorbell to be let in. We have child locks on each door knob making it difficult for children to leave the room without assistance. Our backdoor can only be opened from the inside. We have a video door bell at the back as well. We have many child safety gates seperating all entryways. The staff has lockers so that things like medication will be out of reach from the children. We have a SDS (Safety Data Sheet) binder that has information on all chemicals found in the center with instructions on what to do in case it is swallowed. We do monthly fire, earthquake and intruder drills.
We are a nut-free establishment and we reinforce the rule by throwing away any nut product if brought inside the center. We list the allergies of all students on our refrigerator door. For kids with allergies, we ask for their allergy plan. We also keep their epi-pens in our office in case of emergencies. The proper use of epi-pens is included in our First Aid/CPR certifications.
All food and drinks are to be provided by the parents. We can refill water bottles with water. We offer catered lunch through Tsibugan for $5.25 a day. Tsibugan is HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point) Certfied, a requirement for any establishment to provide meals for daycare aged children.
While we have an open door policy, unnecessary visits are discouraged because they tend to disrupt the class and the schedule of the student. In their minds, the kids get dropped off in the morning and the next time they see mommy or daddy, its pick up time. When they aren't picked up, they become confused and inconsolable. There have been requests from relatives to come and visit. According to our licensor, long term visitors should be treated like employees and must undergo an FBI background check, provide a police and court clearance as well as obtain a medical clearance because they will be exposed to other kids as well.
To maintain the cleanliness of our center, we are a shoe free center with areas taped off where shoes are allowed. We provide shoe covers/single use bedroom slippers for visitors. Each classroom is equipped with a trashcan with a foot pedal and a tight fitting lid cover and trash is taken it out daily. Soiled diapers are thrown in our outside trashcan immediately. To wipe tables, high chairs, changing tables, counters, shelves, microwaves, gates, door handles, etc., we use a biodegradable cleaning solution and/or Isopropyl or Ethanol Alcohol in spray bottles. We constantly sweep the floors throughout the day (as kids eat in their classrooms) and at closing time, floors are swept then mopped and area rugs are vacuumed. Submergable toys are sanitized every Thursday. Washable toys are washed every Friday. Cots and playpens are steam cleaned everyday. Area rugs are shampooed every Friday. Our rags are collected every Friday and are soaked in bleach overnight before being machined washed. We also soak our mop heads in bleach every Friday and machine wash them. All linings for bouncers, swings, high chairs, rockers, as well as the seat belts for our toddler tables are removed every Friday and washed and treated with Lysol Laundry Sanitizer (because they can't be bleached). WOW does have extra blankets, bibs, and clothes in case it is needed. Used ones are also washed at the end of the week.
